General Rules
Write a progam that help people to use a PC for any task using a combination of low cost Interfaces.
The goal of the contest is to find one or more clever and creative ways to use standard hardware to design a software application with a natural, intuitive way of interaction between the machine and its user.
The application software should be a new or updated free of rights multimodal User Interface software allowing an interaction between one or several user and a computer software of any kind through ordinary devices such as keyboard, mouse, screen, microphone, loudspeakers and webcams or any peripheral cost under 200 Euros. Complex and uncommon interfaces are explicitely banned.
The software should present a clear advantage to the user compared with standard mouse and keyboard applications.
If the progam is an update to an existing software, copyright issues concerning the base software must be confirmed and clearly specified by the candidate before making the registration.
Registration
The candidates can be companies, groups or individuals of any nationality.
The candidates should provide an address and an email for communication with the contest organizers.
The application and all related documents should be written in English.

Application
Registration must be completed: Software submissions cannot be accepted without prior registration.
The software will run on a standard Windows-based Personal Computer (PC) or Windows-CE Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
If plug-ins or additional software are required to use the software, these must be FREE of charge (excepted the operating system).
The software and all related document such as a user manual sould be written in English.
Hardware Specification
The idea is to develop on a standard platform without any exotic peripheral connected:
PC
- OS : Windows XP(TM) SP1 or later (Home Edition or Professional Edition) English Version.
- CPU: Pentium 4 2.4GHz
- Memory: 512 Mbyte
PC Allowed Devices:
- Display : CRT or LCD (not Touch Screen).
- Keyboard : English 104 keys or 86 keys Keyboard.
- Mouse : any standard mouse, Touch Pad Mouse or Stick Mouse.
- Microphone : Ordinary small microphone.
- Speaker : Ordinary speaker or headphone.
- Camera : Ordinary USB Camera
- Or any peripheral cost under 200 Euros
PDA
- OS: Microsoft Windows Mobile(TM) 2003 Second Edition or later / English Version
PDA Allowed devices:
All internal Pocket PC included features (Pen, MIC, Speaker, Button, Bluethooth).
External device (PCMCIA LAN, External Display) are NOT allowed, with the exception of loudspeakers to reach a larger audience, but the application should be usable with the internal speakers only.

Examples of valid applications can be found in the previous year results.
Many creative ways to interact with a machine can be implemented in software only with standard devices : handwritten text recognition, speech recognition or synthesis, barcode reading, gesture recognition by the mouse or the camera, etc.
You can imagine and design a lot of other clever usage of standard devices....
How to Apply?
Registration
- All software submissions require a prior registration.

You will have to:
- Provide your name, gender, email address and country (on explique ce que le formulaire demande).
- Declare if you want to contest in the PC or PDA class.
- Give a short description of your software.
Note: Multiple entries from a single applicant require individual registration to be repeated (one software per one registration).
Software Submission
After the registration, you will receive an email address. Then you will be able to send your Software by email (9Mb max.) to the provided address. If you a have a too big file you can use a program like 'File Spliter' (download here: http://www.dekabyte.com/filesplitter/ ) to send your application in several parts of 9 Mb each at the maximum.
Submission Deadline: October 15th, 2006
You will have to give submission on time:
- Your name and number of email necessery to your software (in you first email).
- A short software description.
- The software package itself.
- All tools necessary to install and use the software.
- An install manual and a user manual (may be short).
The short software description must contain as following:
- The software name and the software author name.
- A short description of the software, its use and its advantages.
- A short technical description (programming language use, libraries used, ...).
This document must be written in English, between 1 and 5 pages, in pdf format.
About The software package
- Don't forget to provide an installer.
- The software package.
- If your software cannot be installed automatically, please provide explainations allowing any user to install the application.
Other Application Rules
- The applicant will keep all applicable intellectual, technical and design copyrights and related rights of the submitted software.
- However, the contest organizers will be granted the right to disclose and distribute the software name, the software Web Site, the summary of Software text, the author name, and Email of any winning applicant.
- The submitted copy of the software package and of the software explanation documents will become the propoerty of the Loco Mummy Contest organizers and will not be returned.
- No import tax of delivery fee will be paid by the Contest organizers.
How do we choose the winners?
We will give points to the entries for innovation, usefulness, ease of use, benefit for normal people and for disabled people.
Results announcements
Winners will be notified from the Loco Mummy Contest organizers directly by email on November 15th, 2006.
Winners will be announced both at the awards ceremony and on the contest website on December 4th, 2006.
The Awards Ceremony
The awards ceremony will be held in Brussels (Club de la fondation Universitaire - Rue d´Egmont, 11 - 1000 Brussels - Belgium), Belgium on December 5th, 2006 (16:00 -18:00) during the SIMILAR network of excellence general assembly.
The winner of the first prize will be repaid of its travelling expenses to visit the awards ceremony in Belgium.
